Overview of intelligence gathered on the Indian Lake, Ohio tornado

WHAT HAPPENED

Severe weather brought at least two tornadoes to areas of Ohio and Indiana on the evening of Thursday 14 March 2024, killing at least 3 people and destroying a number of homes and properties in Indian Lake, Ohio, as well as Selma and Winchester, Indiana.

A confirmed tornado was observed touching down outside the city of Wapakoneta Auglaize County, Ohio before it moved into the neighbouring towns around Indian Lake, which is 70 miles northwest of the state capital Columbus.

Tragic loss of life happened as the tornado devastated a camping ground in Lakeview, before moving into property that sits on the shore of the lake in Russells Point, Logan County, Ohio. Initial reports from social media showed severe damage to a number of properties and the tornado was declared by local authorities as a ‘mass casualty event’.

In the immediate aftermath of the event, the MIS team performed in-depth analysis of the affected areas, releasing an Exposure Layer, Claims Layer and building-level damage assessment on GEO within a matter of days.
